TechTrax Survey Winners and New Drawing

by Dian Chapman, MVP, MOS

The Winners
In the November issue of TechTrax, we asked our readers to take the time to fill in our first Survey to tell us about the technologies they use. We want to know what our readers are using so we can better cover your needs here in TechTrax. As a reward for taking your precious time to help us out, we tossed all the submitted emails into an Access database from which we would select two winning emails. (See our article discussing some of the survey results.)

On November 29th, while digesting the left over turkey from Thanksgiving, we gave our random number applet a spin and came up with two winners. Emails were sent letting them know they needed to reply to claim their prizes and so they did!

Our first winner was Carl Swann, from Kingsport, TN.

Hi Dian - WOW! I'm flabbergasted... what a neat pre-Christmas surprise! I'm going to select two gifts for my son at college: the Internet Keyboard Pro, and the Optical Mouse Blue.

Thanks again - I'm ecstatic! Have a happy and blessed Christmas/Chanukah season. :-)

Carl

I also asked Carl a little bit about himself..

"I live in Kingsport, Tennessee, in the mountainous foothills of the Appalachians east of Knoxville. My wife and I have our business at home: we write and produce radio/TV commercials and narrations for industrial videos and computer-based training. The digital revolution has enabled us to do everything in-house that used to require a free-standing, dedicated recording studio. Internet delivery of digital audio and scripts has made us as competitive as if we lived in major media markets. I am 59 and my wife is 51, and we both come from broadcasting backgrounds.

"Our only child, Eric, is a freshman at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, TN, just outside Nashville. He's majoring in Mass Communications/Recording Industry and intends to one day build and operate a recording studio where others can come to make their music; he's already produced 2 CDs for his band while in high school. I imagine the keyboard and optical mouse prizes will be welcomed for use on his at-school computer!"

Once Carl had replied and made his selection, it was time to notify our second winner, who turned out to be Martha Bagswell, from Arlington, TX. Martha's reply came the next day:

Wow! I never win anything, that's great!

Martha

And my further conversation with Martha added:

Cool! I would like Windows XP Pro Upgrade & Dungeons Siege. As I said before, I have never won anything before, this is great! Thank you very much!

I am over 65 & have been in love with computers since the first time I saw a Commodore 64. I am a member of Linda's MS Office group & a lot of other Yahoo Groups too and I am known as surfinmac on the Yahoo scene. I have learned so much from you and have links to your site on my web site.

Thank you, thank you,

Martha

Our Next Drawing
I love giving stuff away and making people happy—what fun playing Santa.

Thankfully, as a Microsoft MVP, I get to select some free software in exchange for my support efforts. But after eight years as an MVP, and Greg being one, too, our house is piled with software and electronic toys, and our kids are starting to threaten us if we get anymore! <smile> So it's fun being able to give some goodies away.

But don't feel bad if you didn't win. We still have some prizes left and I've decided to have a drawing from all our subscribers. So make sure you've signed up as a subscriber at www.mousetrax.com/techtrax. Then, to help celebrate the New Year, we'll select a lucky winner from our subscriber's list for January!

If you become our winner, you'll be able to pick one of the following items left in our prize cabinet, just for being a subscriber!

If you don't currently get a monthly TechTrax notice, sign up! If you have signed up already, no need to do it again, it won't help your odds. And tell your friends! Good luck! The winner will be selected December 31, 2002.
