PowerPoint to EXE is a programming service,
provided by Vic Ferri, which can convert PowerPoint presentations into
single stand alone exe files that can be played on all the major Windows
platforms without any need for the user to have PowerPoint or any Office
components installed. And neither is there any need for the user
to download a viewer. The user simply clicks the exe and the
presentation runs. The main demand for this service comes from
business and corporate customers, and judging from their comments, there
seems to be two prime reasons for desiring this method:

Ease of distribution
There is only
one file to distribute. The file can be burned on a cd and set to autorun
or it can be made available for download from the customers site. And
if the presentation is small enough to make it convenient, the exe
can even be emailed out to users. Zipping is usually recommended when
email is used for distribution
- Security
Unlike a PPS or PPT file format, the
EXE file cannot be edited nor can slides be copied. This
is the only method that can achieve this security. Though
there are other exe methods, they are all flawed
in that either the files can all be extracted and copied or
that the exe cannot be viewed without PowerPoint being installed.
These other
exes methods are usually nothing more than self extracting zipped files. Right
clicking these files gives the user
an extract option and full
editing and copy control of the customers presentation. Password
protecting is useless as well since once the file is opened, the same can be
done.

Effects Supported
Most PowerPoint effects, as well as audio and
video, are supported by the EXE conversion, but macros or VBA are not
supported (however, this would also apply to the Viewer). In general,
the exe provides support about the same as the latest viewer would.
PowerPoint to EXE is a customized service. Each presentation is worked
on individually with whatever methods work best for the customer. You
can request demo exe conversions or send him a sample presentation in
PPT format and he will return to you an evaluation copy of your presentation
in EXE format.
