Eye of the Storm

As Charlie reminded us, it's storm season!

A screen saver that I found a few years ago is a great way to keep up with what's going on in the world in the way of storms, tropical depressions, typhoons and hurricanes. It's called Eye of the Storm.

Note that you will need to have a constant connection to the Internet in order to take advantage of having the current data downloaded to the screen saver so it can be displayed.

As you can see in the above image, at the time of this writing, Typhoon Frank is currently whipping up the Pacific at 75mph. There are also a couple of Tropical Depressions following along in it's wake.

As with any screen saver, there are features you can set. One of them even does allow you to turn off the live data feed, if you can't be connected all the time.

I've used this program for years and I haven't found it to have any spyware, as so many of the most popularly advertised 3D screen savers now add to your computer.

My only warning is that you ONLY download it from the creator's web site. I've seen links to download this screen saver from many other sites that make you register in order to download it. I'm sure they're harvesting your email for their own spamming purposes. If you go to the main host site here: http://www.starstonesoftware.com/, you can just download it and be on your way.

However, if you're really into weather and want more, they also have the full featured version available for sale from their site, as well as other screen savers for time and global lights. Pretty cool stuff!
