Cleaning Your Other Windows

Yes, there are other Windows! How 'bout the ones around your house?

So now you're thinking "Okay, Dian has really gone off her rocker if she's talking about cleaning glass windows in a computer magazine." Whether I'm off my rocker is debatable ...but yes, I am going to talk about cleaning your glass windows. And you just watch...I'll even tie this article to computers.

First the disclaimer: I am in no way connected with anything to do with Miracle Cloths. But I've been using them for over a year now and every time I do, I'm still amazed at how well they actually work and I keep thinking that I must tell my readers about this find!

What am I talking about? Have you seen any of these ads for Miracle Cloths? In some versions, they're called Micro Cloths and I think they're also on the As Seen On TV web site. Sometime over a year ago I saw them mentioned in a catalog I get: Solutions Catalog. Yes, I'll confess...the idea of being able to clean my house with just water was enticing, but it was the pretty pastel colors that first caught my attention.

So I gave it a shot and dropped about $10 on a set of three of these cloths to see if they really are miraculous. They are! And I'm not the only one who feels that way. I was chatting with MVP, Susan Ramlet via email and she came back saying "I LOVE Miracle Cloths, and I get them from Solutions, too. I think the ones from Solutions are different from others I've tried, and I like them better. I love the fact that you don't use anything other than water, too, especially with the kids around, and in the winter, when we can't open up the windows to get rid of fumes!"

I totally agree with her on all counts!

I was blown away when I started using these cloths. Not only could I clean all the dog snot off my sun parlor windows on a regular basis with ease, but the windows were totally clean and streak and lint free...completely!...in about 1 minute. And not only did I only use water to do it, but I was also using a fairly dirty, cold wet cloth by the time I got through a few windows. Yet the last got just as sparkling as the first.

Next challenge. I rinsed out my cloths, grabbed a ladder, stuffed one wet cloth and one dry one in the back pockets of my jeans and headed to hit the outside of the windows. Windows that hadn't been cleaned in a year cos' I hate cleaning the outside of the windows. I was having a gas! It was amazing how I could  not only feel the dirt as I cleaned it, but I could tell when it was all gone because I couldn't feel the cloths snagging on the dirt on the windows anymore. Yup, these cloths feel like they are made of some type of soft, micro velcro. They're not, but you can feel the tiny catching action???...even when you hold them when they are dry.

Okay...time for a real challenge...my chrome stove. I was easily cleaning off French fry grease splatters...with just water! Even the tomato sauce the kids left stuck there the other day...gone with a few wipes. Follow the wet cloth with a dry one and it sparkled like new. Seeing that, Greg took one out to the garage to clean the motorcycles...perfect!

When I told my daughter about it, she figured mom's lost it, again! But I forced a couple on her for her new apartment. When she first went over the window with the wet cloth and it was leaving globs of wet dog hair and lint on the windows, she figured it was a nasty joke on my part, since I know she's somewhat obsessive about fuzzy windows. But after then dusting the newly clean window dry with a dry cloth, she was amazed at how clean her windows were...so much so she called me just to tell me!

Okay, ready? Here's the computer tie in...look at your keyboard, mouse and monitor. Are they filthy? Do you have dark marks around the spots where you type because dust and humidity is causing goop to stick to the plastic where you don't touch? I remember when Candi complained in one of her Help Desk articles about getting calls from users asking if they could have a clean mouse. Yup, handling that plastic causes it to get yucky. And it's very hard to clean. I've heard about using rubbing alcohol and Q-tips. But in a minute or two, mine were looking brand new after a few rubs with my damp Miracle Cloth!

These things are great for everything...even brushing the hair off your dog or removing stains from your clothes. Just don't get them near your eyes or your pet's eyes as the tiny fibers can come off and get in your eyes...so says the warning. And I believe that warning because I recently got some of the cheaper Micro Cloths that are shown on TV and I can tell you those are not as good as the Miracle Cloths I got from Solutions Catalog because they did leave some tiny fibers on the mirrors in my house. But a few wipes with the original (old, now beat up Miracle Cloths) removed what the others had left.

Oh, and it does a fantastic job dusting. Even better than those expensive, boxes of disposable dusting cloths that I used for a year or so before I found these gems. How much money did I waste on those!

So if you have gunk around your house, your garage, your office, your computer rooms and you'd like to easily clean the sticky, greasy, gooey goop...without wasting money or dealing with fumes on chemical cleaners get yourself a set and check them out.

However, remember what I said...I can't fully recommend the look-a-likes that are out on the market now. I've tried some and the best ones I've found are the original Miracle Cloths and I'm guessing that Solutions may have the rights to those? But the good news is that I just got my latest Solutions Catalog and they are currently having a sale on their cloths through February 28th. Have fun cleaning!
