Linda Johnson, MOS

Linda F. Johnson, MA, has had many careers, starting as an elementary school teacher, then a magazine/book editor, then a licensed psychotherapist. She currently works mostly from home as a Technical Instructor, so that she can be company to her elderly mother.

Linda got her first computer in January of 1998, at the age of 50. It was a computer that someone was going to throw away because it was infected with a virus and unbootable. She found she had a knack for this stuff and had the computer up and running and connected to the Internet in three days—she was hooked! From this point, she began surfing the Internet to see what she could learn and self-taught herself how to use basic Windows programs. When she realized this was what she wanted to do for a living, she convinced a company called PCHelps, Inc. to hire her to work helpdesk, based on nothing more than her skills, since she had no formal software training. After working on-phone helpdesk support for 13 months, she decided she enjoyed teaching more than troubleshooting, so she went to a training broker (Berkeley Training) and gave a training demo. They agreed to send her out to a few local companies, and since then she has been training on a full-time basis at local businesses, a local business college, a local tech school, and with many private tutoring clients.

Linda contributes a weekly column called "Linda's Office Corner" in The Newbie Club's newsletter, The Insider, and has written a series of ebook tutorials for individual Microsoft Office applications. She also publishes her own newsletter All About Computers, as well as runs a Microsoft Office support list, which you can join if you need help with Office applications. She is MOUS certified in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and Brainbench certified as a Master Power User in Excel 2000.
