Welcome to TechTrax!

July was another wild month. TechTrax is becoming more and more popular, with over 500 regular readers who have subscribed, just since it's start in May. You, too, can receive a quick monthly email notice when the new issue is online by adding your email address to our confidential subscriber database at www.MouseTrax.com/TechTrax/. If you're already a subscriber and enjoy the helpful articles you find here each month, be sure to share the wealth and tell your friends about us! And if you joined us late and missed any previous issues, be sure to click the Archives link above to catch up.

And July became even more of an adventure for me personally, when both my brother-in-law and my mom were shooting for a group discount in the cardiac care unit of Lutheran General Hospital. Neither were initially allowed to move around much, so I solved the problem of them not being able to visit each other by bringing along my video cam. I'd tape one of them waving to the other, then run across the hall and show that tape, then tape a reply and run it back across the hall. And you thought visiting family in the hospital was boring!

Thankfully, a break in the action will be arriving soon as the current Eclectic Academy online classes I teach come to a close next week. But that also means that it's time to start registering for the next semester, which will be here too soon. They're a great bargain! You can learn tons for just $20. My classes cover Microsoft Word Advanced Document Design, Word AutoForms and Beginning VBA and Advanced Word 301. But if you're not ready for advanced courses, Linda Johnson also teaches several Microsoft beginning and intermediate courses. And there are lots of courses available for other programs and technologies. Check out the course list! Unfortunately, September 1st will be here before we know it!

However, if you don't have time to wait, I'll soon be publishing an eBook containing my AutoForms/Beginning VBA training information. Creating automated forms in Word is a popular solution. I have a free set of AutoForm tutorials available on my web site's TechPage, along with a bunch of other tutorials. This eBook will contain more AutoForm details, useful code and a beginner's lesson to understanding VBA. Sure, this type of information is available on the web, but if you don't have time to hunt it down and want concise instructions, my eBooks will be a valuable resource. I hope to have this first one out in about a week. Keep an eye on the MouseTrax TechBook page if you're interested.

And speaking of getting valuable stuff, we have a winner of our writing contest! Sorry you didn't get a chance to vote on the winner, but voting wasn't necessary since Cap'n Patt was the only person smart enough to take the time to send in a submission! As I said last month, no one had yet submitted an article. So Cap'n Patt took the hint and sent one. Being the only submission—he wins! So he'll be enjoying his three cool Microsoft Racing games as he chose to receive Racing Madness, which includes Midtown Madness through Chicago, Motocross Madness and Monster Truck Madness. You can find his Geek-Speak Translator article under our Escapes department.

So as August rolls around, I'm determined to find a little time to hang back like my doggies and enjoy some of these dog days of summer. I hope you all get a chance to do the same. And I also hope you'll enjoy this month's issue of TechTrax. We've packed it with some great stuff for you.

Enjoy!
Dian ~
