Planning a Party?

by Stacy Chesney

With the holiday season coming up, a lot of people will be planning all kinds of parties and get togethers. There will be invite lists to write, invitations to buy or create, a flurry of emails between friends making plans—who's bringing the soda?...who's bringing chips and dip?...can anyone pick up a few friends and drive them over?

Rather than spending all your time sitting in front of a pile of emails trying to keep yourself organized, you should check out www.Evite.com. Lots of people are familiar with the Yahoo! groups that you can create for group information. But the Evite site is specifically set up to help you manage your events.

And like Yahoo! groups, it's free, you just get stuck with a lot of free advertising you have to put up with. But it has a lot of useful tools that can make it worth the trouble.

Special dates lists and suggested party events are ready for you to choose. Or you can create your own custom event Evite.

Look at some of the useful tools available to you. The image below shows tabs for keeping control over all your Evites. You can create your addressbook or download info from your email addressbook. Reminders help you remember everything you need to do. You can send email polls to all the invitees via email asking them to come to the site and cast votes for whatever info you need to gather, such as type of music, which restaurant, etc. And after the party, you can have everyone post their pictures to the event site so all the registered invitees can enjoy them all in one spot.

In this image, you can see they provide pages for event details, your invite design site, a page of things to ask your guests, like who will be the designed drivers for the party. A page of suggested essentials so you don't forget anything. And even a page where you can set the specifics of your party and issues of how private you want the information to be.

Special event invites are displayed so you can easily find something special to use to promote your party. But if the currently featured designs aren't what you need...

...there are a ton of others to choose from.

When you enter all the details, invitees know they can just come to this main party web site to login and get all the most current details, like the location of the party and maps showing how to get there or check to see how many other friends are coming, if you set the defaults to display this info the everyone from the site.

You can create survey polls so you can better plan what the majority of your guests want. The polls will automatically be send to all the invitee emails on your party list. You can keep watch to see how the voting is going.

A poll page lets you easily ask opinions from all your guests.

The Essentials list provides a place to keep your growing check list, so nothing is missed. And if you need to collect money for the party..."Ok, everybody has to pay $10 to get into the party!"...you can set up an account with PayPal so the funds can be collected right from the site and the money will be transferred into your chosen account.

The site is straightforward and easy to use. But if there's anything you can't figure out, just hit the Frequently Asked Question link and all your questions will probably be answered there.

No, TechTrax has no association with this site. We just think it's a convenient way to use the web to your advantage to help you keep all those holiday parties organized so they're a success. And we wanted to make sure you knew of this option.

Have fun—be safe!
