Update!
Mac users now can also benefit from this utility. John McGimpsey, Excel MVP,
worked with Greg to update the Windows code for Word Mac users. Use the same

Ok, you've heard the term "greatest thing since sliced bread," right?
Well, Greg Chapman may have just come up with one of those for all Microsoft Word
2000 and 2002 users with this really cool utility!
How many times have you gone nuts trying to find where a particular setting
is in Word! HA...no need to answer that one. I've been providing technical support
to Word users since 1995, so I know all too well how many times I've answered
one of those questions. How much would it be worth to you to know how all
your Word options were set? How 'bout free!
Just download
Greg's free Word Options utility, double click it and it'll open in Word.
While it opens, it'll be gathering all the setting information found in Tools/Options...
and lots of hidden settings you don't normally see through that dialog,
including some that can only be set with VBA code! The result will be a great
looking Word document (about 15-20 pages) with tables detailing all your optional
settings, what they do, their current state and where all the file paths are
located! Amazing...but true!
Check out a sample from my settings document.

Those auto formatting settings that make you crazy will be no match for you
now, because you'll be able to see what's going on inside!

And if you've ever had to hunt down a file path for some Word settings, hunt
no more. Just run Greg's template and it'll give you all the details that you
can print out and keep handy.

No longer will you rack your brains or waste time trying to find out where
something is located.
Who should use this?
- Great for new Word users to help them get a feel for all that's going
on in Word and where things are located!
- Great for Word power users who need to change their settings a lot
and need a quick verification that everything is the way they now need it!
- Great for Word developers who need to figure out what settings to
control with code!
- Great for Word support staff who need to troubleshoot user's systems
when they've made changes that are causing unusual problems!
Quick...somebody alert the media cos' Greg surely deserves another award
for this wonderful tool!
Note! The download
file has two Word templates zipped together inside the zip file.
After you unzip the file, be sure to use the one for the version of Word
you're using. Word2kOptionSetting.dot is for Microsoft Word 2000 users.
The WordXPOptionSetting.dot contains code that only works for Word
XP (2002) users. You can delete the one you don't need, or do a friend with
that version a favor and pass it to them. Better yet, tell them to come get
their own copy.
